As a teacher of toddlers/preschoolers, there’s one thing many of them love — vehicles! Vehicles are interesting to little ones, so incorporating them on your Montessori workshelves can help keep children engaged. Here are some ways to provide Montessori-inspired activities featuring vehicles of all kinds!
Practical Life / Fine Motor
Use real toy cars on your Practical Life shelves! Make a line on the floor using painter’s tape or washi tape, then show the child how to drive the car along the line. Repeat with curved and zigzaggy lines.
You can also get a toy car dirty outside, then bring it in for a car washing work! Put the dirty car on a try with a spray bottle of water and a toothbrush. Show the child how to spray the car and then scrub it with the toothbrush until it is clean.
Language
Learn the nomenclature of different types of vehicles using a 3-Period Lesson.
If you have children who particularly love Construction Vehicles, try these cards for learning the names of different construction vehicles:
For a bit more advanced language work, these cards can be used to work on prepositional phrases:
Sensorial
Use toy cars along with the color tablets to match the colors found on your cars.
You can also use these 2-part puzzles to complete the vehicles:
Math
Toy cars can also be used for counting! Place them on each red and blue space on the number rods.
You can also work skip counting with cars:
Science
