We began our study of the human body on the outside and worked our way in — as most Montessori learning goes! After learning all about The Outer Body, we moved on in to look at the Skeletal System, the Muscular System, the Nervous System, the Respiratory System, the Circulatory System, the Digestive System, and now the Immune System!
We began with some immune system 3-part cards by Mixing Playdough to get some of the vocabulary down, then we watched an episode of Reading Rainbow that was all about germs!
We did a simple germ experiment using flour to see what happens when you shake hands with someone who has germs on their hands! Daddy got his hands all “germy” in some flour…
…then he shook Nora’s hand…
…and we could see that so many germs then got on Nora’s hand! This was a great experiment to partner with Every Star Is Different’s Spreading Germs Yes & No cards, as we discussed how we could prevent germs from spreading so easily.
Lila [of course] loved learning more about boogers, which we did mainly through books.
