CVC Movable Alphabet Word Building Mats

Once your child has a firm grasp on the sounds made by each letter and has worked on hearing beginning, ending, and middle sounds in CVC words, it’s time for some word building! This phonemic awareness exercise of hearing and combining the smallest units of sounds within words is usually done with a movable alphabet in Montessori spaces. I’ve talked a bit about building CVC words before in this post, but today I’ve created a printable that can scaffold it a bit more for your child.

These CVC Movable Alphabet Word Building Mats provide a simple control of error for the child by giving a hint as to whether the sound they are hearing is going to be a red letter or a blue letter. I made these mats with and without lines, and they fit standard movable alphabet letters. The file also includes the colors in reverse in case you have a movable alphabet with blue consonants and red vowels.

The CVC Movable Alphabet Word Building Mats are available as a free printable for my email subscribers only!  To gain access to this and all of my other subscriber-only freebies, get on my email list HERE and I’ll send the link and password right over!
