How to Display Montessori 3-Part Cards

Advertisements

Montessori 3-Part Cards are a material that is used to teach nomenclature of various objects all in one category. They consist of one control card which has the picture and the label together, one picture card, and one label card. The idea is for the child to learn the nomenclature and then be able to match the picture and the label together, checking her work with the control card. There are several different ways you can display 3-parts on your Montessori shelf.

One method is to purchase a 3-part card tray like this one. It contains a spot for each of the three parts of the cards and helps to keep the material organized while also allowing the child to see what the general topic is. If you are on a budget, I would just get one of these and switch out the 3-part card set that is on display.

You can also use 3-pocket pouches made of fabric like this one. These are less expensive than wooden trays, and the fabric can be customized to the general topic area. If you are a crafty person, you can even make your own using these free instructions! Or you can print out this free template from Chalk Academy on paper and make a paper version instead.

If you want to display your 3-part cards in a simple yet effective way with materials you already have, just use a tray and then have three smaller bowls/containers on the tray — one for the control cards, one for the picture cards, and one for the labels.
