We began our study of the human body on the outside and worked our way in — as most Montessori learning goes! After learning all about The Outer Body, we moved on in to look at the Skeletal System, the Muscular System, the Nervous System, the Respiratory System, and now the Circulatory System!
Our favorite activity that we’ve been using throughout this human body study is this felt human body! It comes with the bones AND the organs, but we isolated each system as we learned about it. The girls loved seeing how the heart nestles in among the other organs on our felt human body.
We also did an experiment to see each other’s pulse — we took a ball of playdoh, stuck a toothpick in it, and then laid it on our pulse points on our wrists. We could see the toothpick go up as blood pulsed through our veins!
