Have I mentioned how much I like creating fall-themed works for my kids?  I was excited to find this Leaf Man Story Basket up in my attic from my Montessori training days, and both kids have enjoyed working with it this fall!

Have you read Leaf Man, by Lois Ehlert?  I love all of her books, but this one is my absolute favorite!  It’s about a leaf that blows away in the wind, and each page shows different scenes created out of leaves.

We began by reading the book together.  Then I turned the book to the page showing the leaf man and gave L a basket full of felt leaves — I made them by tracing the leaves straight from the book!

We talked about the parts of the body on the leaf man, and then began using the felt leaves to make our own leaf man!

L’s leaf man wasn’t exactly like the one in the book, but it was recognizable enough.

Once her leaf man was complete, L wanted to show him all of the pictures in the book!

The only felt leaves I have in our basket are the ones that make up the leaf man.  For older children, you could make even more leaves so you can make the other pictures in the book as well as create your own!
